Dharwad
The second most advanced district in the state, Dharwad is uniquely positioned between Bengaluru and Mumbai and is an important business centre in the state. Agriculture is a focus area in Dharwad, with floriculture, animal husbandry and the food sector driving the segment here. Along with maize and jowar, cotton, sunflower and onion are some of its major crops. Dharwad is rich in local varieties of high-quality chilly, i.e. Devanoor local and Byadagi with a major trade centre at Hubballi. Dharwad is well set with its eight industrial areas along with the existing IT/BT zone and industry-specific zone for automobile, readymade garment and food processing sectors. Animal husbandry and sericulture with support infrastructure like cocoon market, reeling and training institutes are other potent sectors under focus here.
