The coastal belt of Uttara Kannada also has one of Karnataka\u2019s largest ports, Karwar, with a capacity of 75000 million tonnes liquid storage and 30000 MT warehousing. Government of Karnataka is keen on developing six berths under PPP here. The region also cultivates plantation crops like areca nut, coconut and cashew along with kokum. Large coastlines with suitable climatic conditions help the agro and horticulture products in the district. The rich biodiversity in the region is ideal for organic farming too.
